The Bosendorfer factory is based in Austria in Wiener Neustadt, nearly 50 km north to Vienna. This is the oldest piano factory in the world.

The Imperial 290 model has 97 keys. This is an octave more than in the classical models.
Bosendorfer offers Silent Pianos. You can turn them from acoustic to digital. In this configuration sound comes out from headphones, that allows playing it any time without disturbing anybody.
Ignaz Bosendorfer became a professional piano maker as a student of Joseph Brodman. He inherited the workshop of his teacher, and started to trade in 1828. At the same time he received the permission to live and work in Vienna. Franz Liszt's favorable opinions, and his teacher's tradition was consequently increasing fame and the good reputation of the company. Ignaz Bosendorfer died in 1859. His son took over responsibility of father's business. During the next two years the factory changed locations twice. The Bosendorfer piano competition started in 1889. At the begging of XX century the eight-octave grand piano appeared - Imperial 290. Since 1909 Bosendorfer is no longer the founder of the family business. Carl Hutterstrasser bought the company. His sons Aleksander and Wolfgang inherited the buisness. From 1966 till 2001 the owner of the brand was the Kimball company. Afterwards BAWAG had it for seven years. Nowadays Bosendorfer belongs to Yamaha.
